Contemporary Conversations in Jewish Thought


Since October 7, 2023, the Middle East has witnessed a cascade of momentous developments that have reshaped the regional landscape and Israel's position within it. From the devastating Hamas attacks and the subsequent Gaza War to the eventual ceasefire; from President Trump's creation of a "Board of Peace" to oversee Hamas's disarmament and Gaza's reconstruction to the June 2026 war between Israel and Iran; from the fall of the Assad regime in Syria and the weakening of Hezbollah in Lebanon to Saudi Arabia's increasing hostility toward Israel – the geopolitical terrain has shifted dramatically.


Meanwhile, Israel's domestic situation has seen equally significant upheaval. Mass anti-government protests erupted while hostages remained in Gaza. Tensions with the ultra-Orthodox community over military service have intensified. Ongoing settler violence in the West Bank continues to complicate peace efforts.
