SYVJC Statement on Israel

Western Wall at night

The Santa Ynez Valley Jewish Community stands in solidarity with the State of Israel and with the Israeli people. Our prayers, our community efforts, and our shared heritage connect us deeply to Israel as it strives for a future of safety, democratic strength, and lasting Shalom (peace).

Our people’s connection to the Land of Israel is inextricably rooted in our history, prayers, rituals, literature, and language. Across generations, Israel has remained central to Jewish identity, continuity, and spiritual life.

We affirm that the Jewish people have the right to self‑determination and statehood in their ancestral homeland. This right is fundamental, enduring, and recognized across the global Jewish community.

At the same time, our congregation takes no official position on Israeli politics, policy, or the actions taken by its government. We are a diverse community with a wide range of perspectives, and we honor that diversity by creating space for thoughtful, respectful engagement rather than endorsing any particular political viewpoint.

Together, we hold fast to our shared values, our commitment to Jewish peoplehood, and our hope for peace, security, and dignity for all who call the region home.
